The Good News Community Church Choir is a Christian community within a body of Christ that ministers through music and is committed to the vision of Good News Community Church as a multi-cultural, multi-racial, neighborhood church. The basic operating principle of a Christian community (and the choir) is love. (I Corinthians 13:1-7) Choir members serve to further the mission and vision of Good News Community Church.
Participating in the choir requires a serious commitment. The choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7 – 8:30 p.m. and Sunday mornings from 10:30-11:00 a.m. In addition, the choir sings at funerals, weddings, special services and community events. Because the Good News Community Church Choir ministers through music. Our highest priority is singing in Sunday services and in special services sponsored by the Church. We frequently sing at special services, such as Christmas eve and Good Friday services. Ministering during worship requires participation throughout the service, including praise and worship time, march-in, special choir songs and leading congregations songs during collection and invitation times.
Good News Community Church choir has a large repertoire of contemporary Black gospel songs, but it is committed to and is learning a variety of songs from bilingual to meditation songs to contemporary praise and worship songs. The choir is led by professional musician Randy Johnson and volunteer conductor Kim Bobo.
All who have a spirit to sing and a willingness to learn are invited to sign in the choir. The choir sings in three-part harmony, but most members had never sung harmonies until joining the choir. The parts are taught by rote (you don’t need to know how to read music), so prior music experience is not required, but welcomed. God works through our voices to minister to the congregation and community.
